Multi‑area assessment and identification of three Japanese Knotweed infestations across the southern car park, followed by a structured eradication programme prepared for Brentwood Borough Council.
Multi‑Area Knotweed Assessment & Three‑Year FAST System Treatment Programme
At the request of Brentwood Borough Council, IVM carried out a detailed site assessment at Brentwood Town Hall to investigate multiple Japanese Knotweed infestations located within the southern section of the car park. Three separate areas of growth were identified, including mature stands, previously treated regrowth and untreated plants up to 2 metres in height.
Project Overview
Location: Brentwood Town Hall, Essex
Client: Brentwood Borough Council
Site Type: Local authority grounds / municipal car park
Contamination: Three separate Japanese Knotweed stands
Requirement: Three‑year herbicide treatment using the
IVM FAST System
The Challenge
Japanese Knotweed was found in three distinct areas across the southern car park, including mature plants, previously treated regrowth and untreated stems ranging from 30cm to 2 metres. Some plants showed signs of unsuccessful historic herbicide applications. The council required a reliable, compliant eradication approach to prevent further spread and to manage the infestations across public‑facing land.
Our Solution
Following the assessment, Brentwood Borough Council instructed IVM to implement a structured three‑year herbicide treatment programme using the IVM FAST System. Treatments were applied across all three infestation zones, targeting mature stems, regrowth and untreated plants. The FAST System ensured deep‑route herbicide uptake, overcoming the limitations of previous unsuccessful applications and providing a lender‑compliant approach often required for mortgage‑affected properties.
Outcome
• All three Knotweed areas successfully controlled
• FAST System treatments delivered over a three‑year period
• Mature, untreated and previously treated plants fully suppressed
• Long‑term management plan completed for Brentwood Borough Council
• Site now maintained under ongoing monitoring as required
