Japanese Knotweed eradication at a disability centre in Sutton Coldfield. The courtyard infestation was treated using the IVM FAST System after excavation proved impossible due to restricted access. Full eradication achieved and the area made safe for residents.
FAST System Eradication for a Disability Centre Courtyard
IVM was instructed to eradicate Japanese Knotweed from a disability centre in Sutton Coldfield. The infestation had spread across a courtyard area, damaging block paving and creating a trip hazard for residents. With no machinery access available, excavation was not a viable option.
Project Overview
Location: Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands
Site Type: Disability Centre – Courtyard Area
Access: No machinery access available
Contamination: Knotweed spread during previous landscaping works
Risk: Block paving damage creating a safety hazard for residents
The Challenge
The courtyard was heavily contaminated after Japanese Knotweed was unintentionally spread during earlier landscaping operations. With no access for excavation machinery, traditional dig‑and‑dump remediation was impossible. The Knotweed had already begun lifting block paving, preventing safe use of the courtyard by residents.
Our Solution
IVM implemented our proprietary FAST System eradication method across the courtyard. This approach is specifically suited to restricted‑access environments where excavation is not feasible. The FAST System delivers accelerated herbicide uptake, enabling full eradication without the need for soil removal.
Outcome
• Complete eradication achieved using the FAST System
• No excavation required despite restricted access
• Courtyard made safe and usable for residents
• Long‑term protection with professional monitoring
